Abstract

This chapter discusses different films by Mixtec filmmakers Ángeles Cruz and Nicolas Rojas Sánchez. Both filmmakers have received several national and international awards for their work. The films by Ángeles Cruz as well as the films by Nicolas Rojas Sánchez are profoundly embedded in their respective Mixtec communities. Ángeles Cruz has made a number of short and feature drama films, Nicolas Rojas Sánchez has made short drama films and documentaries. Their films are all set in Mixtec communities and were often also produced with communitarian support. Generational bonds and language are important elements in their different films. The chapter will examine the role of community, generational bonds, and language in these films and the decolonial perspective offered through these.
