The aim of this paper is to explore the significance of identity during organisational change, particularly during organisational mergers, by reviewing the literature on identity and mergers to date to identify any gaps and propose new directions for future research. In order to achieve this aim, the paper begins by exploring the dominant theoretical perspectives in the field, and then the relationship between identity and mergers is introduced, followed by a review of empirical research in the field and some recommendations for future research.
