Powder-coated Al-clad Windows: characteristics and performance.
Asif, M; Davidson, A; Muneer, T
Abstract
Nor-Dan is the biggest windows manufacturing company in Norway and has been producing aluminium clad windows for the past 30 years. Over the last twenty years, powder coated aluminium has replaced the anodised aluminium to enhance the weathering and corrosion resistance of cladding. This article presents findings of a research study carried out in collaboration with Nor-Dan(UK)Ltd, to investigate the enrgy and environmental aspects of these windows. The embodied energy of a standard Nor-Dan Al-clad window has been evaluated. The weathering and corrosion resistance qualities have also been evaluated using accelerated ageing tests carried out at Napier University, Edinburgh and Otto-Von-Guericke University, Magdeburg. A questionnaire survey has also been carried out to analyse the performance of these windows in domestic and commercial application.
