Abstract
As technology becomes increasingly important as a means of supporting older people at home, the
dangers of distress caused by the introduction of inappropriate technology become greater. This
paper discusses the argument for ‘in-home’ research with the frail elderly and describes some of
the issues that the UTOPIA project has encountered in carrying out such research
