Abstract

This report describes tests carried out at the heavy structures lab (A25), Edinburgh Napier University on the racking performance of a number of timber framed walls as supplied by IJM Timber Frame Company. The client’s requirements were as follows:
To determine the maximum racking load and the racking stiffness of a series of timber framed walls. The tests were to consist of a series of existing and newly developed/enhanced design configurations for timber frame walls (2.4m x 2.4m) constructed at IJM facilities and delivered to our test facility (A25), to allow for setting of a benchmark of the enhanced wall designs against the “standard” IJM wall designs. The enhanced wall design differentiates from the standard one in that of solid timber block, fixed at the bottom plate and leading stud.
