Abstract

Inter-processor communication in interconnectionnetworks can create bottlenecks for scalable parallelimplementations of computationally intensiveapplications. Multicast and broadcast are generallythe most fundamental communication operationsrequired by many real world parallel and distributedapplications and are used to implement most of theother collective communication operations. As aresult, ensuring the development of scalable parallelimplementations in a variety of parallel anddistributed applications necessitates efficientsolutions for the multicast and broadcastcommunication. The rapid and convergence of the fieldhas created a need for new collective communicationalgorithms. This book provides background theory andsolutions for providing high performancecommunications, while paving the road towards QoSaware communications for interconnection networks. The book gives a comprehensive coverage of multicastand broadcast patterns in interconnection networks. It presents new efficient algorithms forinterconnection networks. It gives the reader theessential background to understand and implement QoSaware collective communication algorithms
