Abstract

Wireless Mesh Networking (WMN) emerges as a new technology to reshape the broadband industry towards a more efficient and cost effective connectivity. The WMN has been the ideal technology for the next generation wireless community networks that offers efficient digital engagements and an ideal platform for promoting social partnerships over both urban and rural communities. This is essential for the digital economy and the overall quality of life. Although the gateway involvement in routing management is a main feature of WMN, it is lightly treated in the existing cutting edge standards. In the light of these observations, in this paper, we propose a new algorithm for WMN, namely, Gateway Centralized Multi-hop Routing algorithm (GCMR) in order to enhance the routing management of network layer and, thus, optimize the capability of WMN to handle a wide range of applications, including those which require control/management at the service provider side. We have conducted simulation experiments to examine the performance of our proposed routing. Our analysis and simulation experiments confirm the superiority of GCMR against its counterparts, including the well known AODV-HOP and HWMP routing algorithms, within several QoS constrains.
