Abstract
This paper proposes a compact PIFLA ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna with a tuneable band-notched response from 3.2 to 4.5 GHz. Tuning of the rejected frequency is realised by loading an embedded resonant slot with lumped capacitors (equivalent to varactor operation). The band notched operation is introduced in a way that the capacitor can be varied over the range of values of a similar varactor attached over the L slit of the radiator. The practicable range of the varactor was between 1.5 to 3 pf. The proposed antenna achieves a good impedance match covering the range of 2.9-11.6 GHz, and rejects the bandwidths of 3.2-3.6 GHz for WiMAX and 3.7- 4.2GHz for C-band satellite communication. The proposed antenna, only occupies a small and compact volume of 15mm x 30mm x 5mm. To validate our theoretical model and design concept, the antenna was fabricated and measured.
