Abstract

Recently, there have been increasing interests in controlling and manipulating surface wave propagation based on metasufaces ranging from microwave to optical frequencies. Despite this, a general design tool, linking metasurfaces with classic EM theory of surface waves is missing. The aim of this paper is to present a novel analytical model, utilizing the Helmholtz equation and the circuit element theory, in order to fully characterize electromagnetic properties of arbitrary metasurfaces. To validate the proposed design approach, a metasurface structure for surface wave cloaking is presented, showing good performance in terms of wide bandwidth, polarization independence, and easy-to-fabricate.
