This paper represents a new MIMO antenna design with compact diversity resonators for future smartphone applications. Four pairs of diversity monopoles with CPW feeding have been deployed at the mainboard’s corners to create an 8×8 MIMO configuration. The array designed takes up a comparatively compact space. The design’s antenna radiators have been etched onto the layer that shares the same surface as the PCB ground. The MIMO antenna is designed for 3.6 GHz of sub-6 GHz spectrum and offers a 3.4-3.8 GHz bandwidth. Overall, the planned MIMO array can achieve optimal results and meet the demand for future 5G portable devices such as smartphones.
