Biography Balandino Di Donato is a lecturer in interactive audio at Edinburgh Napier University, where he leads sound research studies in mountaineering environments. This project looks at people's perceptions and the impact of soundscape on humans, the ecosystem and wildlife. Currently, his research is focused on the Scottish mountain ranges.
He led several founded projects like the Sound Design Pipeline For Cross-platform 360 Virtual Productions (AHRC xr-network+) and the BSL in Embodied Music Interaction (AHRC).
He chaired the Audio Mostly 2023 international conference on Sound and Interaction Design and is now a steering committee member.

He received a PhD in Designing Embodied Human-Computer Interactions in Music Performance from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (RBC), Birmingham City University, in 2021. At the Embodied AudioVisual Interaction Unit (EAVI) at Goldsmiths - University of London, he worked on the ERC-funded project BioMusic led by Prof Atau Tanaka. Here, Balandino was an Interaction and Sound designer for a wireless EMG board and AI-driven software for musical applications.
His first academic post as Lecturer was at the University of Leicester as a Lecturer in Creative Computing. During this time, he also collaborated with De Montfort University on the Creative AI Dataset for Live Co-operative Music Performance project founded by the EPRSC HDI Network and with the University of Leicester on the Innovating and Crafting Sustainable Digital Ecosystems (INCITE) project.

Balandino worked as a software developer at RBC on the Integra Live development. At Centro Ricerche Musicali di Roma, he assisted the composer M. Lupone and the artist L. Gallizia in the realisation of interactive sound art installations. Balandino has created award-winning sound art installations (Biennale of Contemporary Art and Design 2018, Biennale ArteScienza 2019) and has performed at international conferences.
