Abstract

Offering and administering anti-D Ig is a key midwifery role, yet midwives are not formally involved in analysing errors or developing recommendations. This work considers anti-D Ig errors from the perspective of midwives, for the first time. The overall objective being to identify the aspects of their practice that midwives might focus on in order to reduce anti-D Ig errors and provide safer, more effective care for women and their babies.
The annual SHOT reports provide valuable data on this key aspect of midwifery practice. Greater participation by the midwifery profession in the analysis and subsequent development and implementation of recommendations holds potential to reduce error and improve outcomes for women and their babies.
