Abstract

This project seeks to explore the uses of mixed reality to create meaningful experiences within a higher education setting. While this project is in its infancy, a connection within the literature has been established between meaningful experiences an engagement within higher education, showing that the student’s connection to both the staff they work with, and the topic of study is of great importance to student engagement. This project will explore how the introduction of mixed reality could enhance these connections by enabling students to experience their chosen field in a way that may not be possible in traditional classroom settings. The project contains two case studies to be completed within six months to inform the empirical study which at this time, using co-design methodologies, would explore one module within a university setting, designing an experience within mixed reality to compliment that module and carrying out an in-class study.
