Abstract
The world has opened up an array of opportunities for women across all professions globally. Organizations are promoting gender diversity and introducing mechanisms towards an effort for ensuring the presence of women. Women, across different fields and disciplines, are exerting efforts towards training themselves and engaging in developmental practices to acquire suitable knowledge, skills, and competencies to be able to place themselves at appropriate positions in the workplace. Despite the fact that equality in the workplace is
gaining the attention of global leaders across all spheres of work and has seen improvements as well, the progress towards closing the gender gap is still seen at a lower pace. Disparities, stereotypes, biases, glass ceiling, violence and harassment yet remain to be exhibited in one form or the other in the workplace. In light of the above, the present paper aims at analysing the present status of women in the workplace in India as well as globally and reflect upon the various challenges that women experience in organizational setups. The paper presents a roadmap for organizations towards achieving the sustainable development goal of gender
equality (SDG 5).
