Abstract

The relative scarcity and high cost associated with indium or fluorine, fabrication approaches surface roughness, and low adhesion to polymeric materials are significant drawbacks for indium tin oxide (ITO) and fluorine tin oxide (FTO)-based transparent conductive oxide (TCO) glasses. TCOs are materials that are conductive and, at the same time, exhibit a transparent characteristic that allows light to pass through the material itself. In this regard, as a potential, low-cost semiconducting transparent oxide CdSnO3 (CTO) having excellent electrical properties and stable structure with excellent electrical properties and sturdy structure is an expedient alternate to ITO and FTO. However, the cost of the FTO and fabrication approaches surface roughness, and low adhesion to polymeric materials make it less viable to use as TCO. In this study, CTO has been successfully synthesized by a cost-effective solution process and further endeavoured as a TCO candidate for perovskite solar cell application. Interestingly, the CTO-based device shows 5.42% power conversion efficiency while the FTO-based device shows 6.02%. This work outlines a future direction to use low-cost CTO based TCO as an alternate to FTO. In addition to that, this also signifies a great opportunity towards its implementation of perovskite solar cells. Additionally, coupling a concentrating device to boost the device's performance and reduce the production cost appears as another scope of research interest for this type of device.
