Abstract

Sound Map V is a piece depicting the soundwalk of the Victoria City, an early city limit set in1903 by the British Colonial Government in Hong Kong. History and the sonic footprint of this de facto capital of Hong Kong has mostly been vanished, but some of the sound objects still remain functioning today. Through the soundwalk brought by this piece, you could hear the double-bell ring by the tram, noise from the street market, sound from the nature, as well as citizens’ dialogues. This piece turns the keyboard instrument as a sound mapping controller to trigger sound objects as well as synthesized sound to guide the soundwalk searching for the sonic footprint of this city.
