Abstract

Description
The project aims to explore the value of introducing a semi-structured, study series designed to enhance the first-year student experience (SE). The focus is on the independent learner journey (ILJ) and developing professional and academic skills / knowledge to start the transition process towards later career life.

The specific objectives of the project are to:
- Understand student expectations of the first-year SE, and their learning style preferences
- Provide academic support to identify appropriate learning techniques for students
- Facilitate student-centred skill / knowledge development to encourage ILJ transformation
- Provide opportunities for students to engage in both academic and industry communities
Layman's description
The project aims to explore the value of introducing a study community for first-year university students on event programmes. Emphasis is placed on skill development, knowledge building, and engagement so that first-year students achieve a better experience. This experience will assist in developing the academic skills (for university progress) as well as practical skills (for career progression) that will enable students to practice in the field upon completion of their studies.
