Abstract
One key approach for improving recruitment to Higher Education and to build social capital is Widening Access. This approach seeks to reduce inequalities in access and our attempts to recruit “non-traditional” students is not just to compensate for the decreased availability of school leavers but because it is socially just. Napier University’s commitment to widening participation is grounded on partnership working with local voluntary organisations to provide stepping-stones into further study for community-based learners.
