Feasibility Study on the Potential of Fibre Bragg Gratings for Thermal Monitoring of Cylindrical Lithium-Ion Batteries (2020)
Conference Proceeding
Alcock, K., Grammel, M., Binetti, L., Gonzales Vila, A., Goh, K., & Alwis, L. (2020). Feasibility Study on the Potential of Fibre Bragg Gratings for Thermal Monitoring of Cylindrical Lithium-Ion Batteries. In G. Cranch, A. Wang, M. Digonnet, & P. Dragic (Eds.), Optical Fiber Sensors Conference 2020 Special Edition. https://doi.org/10.1364/OFS.2020.T3.49

Bragg Gratings were used to monitor thermal fluctuations of a Lithium-Ion battery by attaching the sensors outside the casing of the battery. Results are comparable to that obtained from thermo-couples and thus verifies its potential.

Monitoring of the Critical Meniscus of Very Low Liquid Volumes Using an Optical Fiber Sensor. IEEE Sensors Journal, 20(20), 12232-12240. https://doi.org/10.1109/JSEN.2020.2999537

A novel sensing system based on single mode optical fiber in reflective configuration has been developed to measure the critical meniscus height (CMH) of low volumes of liquids, which is then used to calculate the contact angle. The sensing system ha... Read More about Monitoring of the Critical Meniscus of Very Low Liquid Volumes Using an Optical Fiber Sensor.

Optical fibre thermometry using ratiometric green emission of an upconverting nanoparticle- polydimethylsiloxane composite (2020)
Journal Article
Kumar, R., Binetti, L., Nguyen, .. H., Alwis, L. S., Sun, T., & Grattan, K. T. (2020). Optical fibre thermometry using ratiometric green emission of an upconverting nanoparticle- polydimethylsiloxane composite. Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 312, Article 112083. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.sna.2020.112083

The thermally coupled green band emission from excited Er 3+ ions has been used in the past to create optical thermometers, by doping the material in various types of media, particularly glasses. Glasses are known to be excellent hosts for Er 3+ ions... Read More about Optical fibre thermometry using ratiometric green emission of an upconverting nanoparticle- polydimethylsiloxane composite.
