Kal Uheida
Research Student
Biography | Kal Uheida graduated with BSc Honours in Civil Engineering from Edinburgh Napier University in 2015. He followed on from this by graduating with an MSc in Renewable Energy in 2016, broadening his scope of engineering and the built environment by focusing his Thesis on Solar Energy. He is currently now in the final year of his Structural Engineering PhD studying the torsional behaviour of laminated structural glass elements, which has led to published research in the prestigious Composite Structures journal. Kal is also currently an Associate Lecturer at Edinburgh Napier University - School of Engineering and the Built Environment. Additionally, he and the internationally-based research team have published research in structural timber. Kal has presented research at several conferences and exhibitions both locally and internationally, including; CivilComp2019 (The 16th International Conference on Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering Computing) at Lake Garda, Italy; SRPe (Scottish Research Partnership in Engineering Conference) At Strathclyde University; and is set to demonstrate an innovative bamboo-timber grid shell model with the research team at the notable COP26 Conference in Glasgow, November 2021. Kal is involved in several local and international collaborative projects, such as international student exchange programs between Edinburgh Napier and Guangxi University of Science and Technology, research and development of novel jacket-pile gripper technology for offshore structures, and CFD modelling and optimisation for a patented spill-proof coffee cup lid design.
