Description The Higher Education Committee of NAWE represents all members with an interest in Higher Education, and has a number of very important duties to perform: responding to government consultations, participating in REF 2021, working closely with other subject associations, raising concerns affecting the sector, and publishing our online, open access, peer-reviewed journal. Members of the Higher Education Committee attend 3 meetings per year in London and participate actively in the work of the committee.

Trustee for CYMERA: Scotland’s Festival of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Writing

Description CYMERA is Scotland’s Festival of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Writing. A board of trustees was established in 2018 and charitable status attained. The first festival took place in June 2019, and was awarded funding by Creative Scotland and public engagement funding by Edinburgh Napier University. The Covid-19 pandemic meant the next year's festival took place online in June 2020, as will Cymera 2021.

Robert Louis Stevenson Fellowship
2017

Description The Fellowship was initiated in 1994, and is managed by Scottish Book Trust and supported by Creative Scotland. Intended to give writers a chance to escape the routine and distractions of their everyday lives to devote time to their writing, it provides residencies for four writers at the Hôtel Chevillon International Arts Centre at Grez-sur-Loing, France. Travel and accommodation costs are covered, plus a grant of £300 per week for living expenses.
