Richard Llewellyn

Biography Richard Llewellyn is a Chartered Civil Engineer with a wide range of experience in transport planning and engineering.  The first fifteen years of his career were spent in consultancy, developing a broad range of technical and project management experience across a wide variety of projects.  He also wrote several technical standards and contributed to the development of local and national transport policy. During his final four years in consultancy he led a team of over twenty five technical staff across two offices.  

Following his period in engineering consultancy, Richard became a Lecturer in Transportation Engineering and taught on the university’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Civil and Transportation Engineering, both in Edinburgh and overseas in Shanghai and Yangon, Myanmar. He also undertook several research projects in transport planning and traffic engineering during this period. Richard subsequently went on to work for Transport Scotland as Graduate Development Manager where he led the organisation's graduate training programme. He organised

Upon completion of his part-time PhD studies, he returned to Edinburgh Napier University and is currently Programme Leader for the BEng/MEng Civil Engineering and Civil Engineering with Transport programmes. He lectures on Traffic Engineering Design, Transport Engineering and Traffic Demand Management and Road Safety. His research interests include road safety, highway engineering, sustainable transport and urban design.

Richard is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation and Chair of the institution's Education and Professional Development Strategic Board.
