Abstract
The NHS breast cancer screening programme has resulted in overdiagnosis of breast cancer in the general population. For women with intellectual disabilities, participation has been lower than in the general population. This article considers the effect messages about overdiagnosis of breast cancer may have on those who support women with intellectual disabilities in making decisions about taking part in the programme.
