This paper is primarily aimed at addressing some of the issues that relate to student mobility in the area of veterinary nurse education across the world. Mobility of veterinary nursing students and registered practitioners is limited by the highly prescribed requirements of veterinary professional bodies across the world. Frequently these barriers are defined by the recognised body that represents veterinary surgeons and are extremely restrictive to the veterinary nurses that they oversee. The structure and regulations of professionally accredited veterinary nursing programme deter home students accessing traditional exchange programmes and prohibit visiting students from experiencing practice in the veterinary clinical environment. The paper is addressed to the Higher Education and Vocational Education and Training sectors, reflecting the increasing trend of veterinary health professionals to be vocationally trained in a Higher Education setting.
